Description:

This article will outline how to

  • Setup traffic shaping on a Meraki Switch to assist with bandwidth management for VoIP

Methods:

  1. Login to the Meraki Portal.
  2. From the menu on the right, select Security Appliance and then Traffic Shaping.
  3. Setup your max upstream/downstream bandwidth using the 95/5 rule.
    • Take the advertised speed and set 95% as the max available bandwidth. Since the upstream bandwidth is not always consistent and can differ (usually around 5%), this should set a safe limit. If you wish to be more conservative, set it to 90%.
  4. At the bottom of the page, Click on Add a new shaping rule.
  5. Now click, Add+ to add definitions which include the IP addresses listed below and the type of service, SIP (Voice) should shape both SIP signalling and SIP RTP..
    • 54.148.70.218
    • 54.149.90.30
    • 52.11.88.63
    • 54.148.57.6
    • SIP (Voice)
  6. Ensure that DSCP tagging is set to "Do not change DSCP key".
  7. Set the Priority to High.
  8. Click Save Changes.
